that boy is dangerous --- JETT KNEW HE AND ELI HATED ONE ANOTHER, SO THEIR BITING REMARKS ABOUT EACH OTHER WOULD ONLY SERVE TO AID THEM IN THIS. AS HE OFFERED HER HIS ARM, HE GRITTED HIS TEETH AND WAITED FOR THE PAIN. AS HER BLADE BIT INTO HIS SKIN, HE SLAMMED HIS PALM DOWN ON THE COUNTERTOP AND CURSED UNDER HIS BREATH, BUT NOT LOUDLY ENOUGH THAT THEIR 'SAVIORS' COULD HEAR. "SHIT, ELI, HOW ABOUT YOU GIVE ME TETANUS WHILE YOU'RE AT IT?" HE GRIPED. HE NEVER HEARD HER APOLOGY AS HE TOOK HIS RUINED SHIRT AND WRAPPED IT AROUND HIS ARM, CINCHING IT IN PLACE TO KEEP TOO MUCH BLOOD FROM ESCAPING. THANKFULLY, SHE'D CUT DEEP ENOUGH THAT THE BLOOD SOON SOAKED THE SHIRT SO IT LOOKED LIKE HE'D HAD THE WOUND LONGER THAN HE HAD. HE HEARD THE KNIFE CLATTER TO THE FLOOR, AND HE LOOKED UP AND OVER AT HER IN CONFUSION. SHE APPEARED SO RATTLED, AND HE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY. BUT BEFORE HE COULD EVALUATE THE SITUATION MUCH FURTHER, THE DOOR BURST OPEN, SPRAYING DEBRIS FROM THE WALL AND CEILING INTO THE KITCHEN AND MAKING CONNOR COUGH. HE HEARD ELI CURSE SHORTLY AT HER BROTHER BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARED AND JETT ENTERED THE KITCHEN. HIS BLUE EYES, JUST LIKE HIS SISTERS, LOOKED CONNOR UP AND DOWN, NOTICING THE LACK OF SHIRT, AND THEN HE NOTICED THE WOUND ON CONNOR'S ARM.
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN HERE?" HE ASKED, SKEPTICISM CROSSING HIS FACE. CONNOR GROWLED IN HIS THROAT, NOT FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO PUT ON THE IRRITATION HE'D FELT BEFORE HE AND ELI HAD HAD SEX. HE WAS STILL PISSED ABOUT THE WHISKEY, AND HE DIDN'T LET THINGS GO EASILY. "YOUR FUCKING SISTER DESTROYED MY GLENDRONACH... THE ONLY GOOD THING THE SCOTS HAVE EVER INVENTED, AND THEN SHE KNIFED ME," HE SPAT, LYING TO COVER THE INTERLUDE BETWEEN HIM AND JETT'S TWIN. "THE TRULY REGRETTABLE THING HERE IS I DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY GOOD WHISKEY TO DRINK TO SOOTHE MYSELF OVER MY WOUND." HE GLARED AT JETT AS HE PUSHED OUT OF THE KITCHEN AND MADE HIS WAY TO HIS ROOM. YELLING OVER HIS SHOULDER AS HE WENT, HE CALLED, "GET ME A DAMN DOCTOR AND SOME ASS. IF I DON'T HAVE BOTH IN ABOUT TEN MINUTES, SOMEONE'S GONNA PAY FOR IT WITH THEIR HEAD." THE DOCTOR WAS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, AND THE WHORE WAS FOR JUST AS OBVIOUS REASONS, ALTHOUGH JETT AND THE OTHERS WOULD ONLY SEE IT AS CONNOR'S USUAL STYLE. HE HAD SEX WHEN HE WAS ANGRY, AND THEN HE DISCARDED WOMEN, BUT ELI HAD DONE MORE THAN ANGER HIM. SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ENCOUNTER BETWEEN THEM, THE IMAGES OF HER THROWING HER HEAD BACK IN ECSTASY STILL FLASHING IN HIS MIND, HAD SCARRED HIM IN A WAY THE CUT ON HIS ARM NEVER WOULD. IF HE DIDN'T DO SOMETHING TO CLEAR HIS HEAD, AND NOW, HE DIDN'T KNOW IF HE'D EVER BEEN THE SAME AGAIN.

GET ME A DAMN DOCTOR AND SOME ASS. IF I DON'T HAVE BOTH IN ABOUT TEN MINUTES, SOMEONE'S GONNA PAY FOR IT WITH THEIR HEAD. WELL, THAT SOUNDED JUST LIKE CONNOR. SNAPPING HIS FINGERS, JETT POINTED AFTER THEIR LEADER, ORDERING ONE OF THE MEN WHO'D HELPED CLEAR THE DOORWAY TO ATTEND TO CONNOR. JETT HAD TO FOLLOW HIS SISTER. AT FIRST, HE'D BEEN SUSPICIOUS WHEN HE'D FIRST FOUND THE DOOR TO THE KITCHEN CAVED IN WHEN HE'D ARRIVED HOME FROM SURVEILLANCE OVER THE DEPUTY CONNOR WANTED WATCHED. BUT HEARING CONNOR HAD OVERREACTED AND BLOWN A HOLE IN THE CEILING AS A RESULT DIDN'T SURPRISE HIM. HE HAD KNOWN CONNOR A LONG TIME, AND HE KNEW HIS TEMPER OFTEN GOT THE BEST OF HIM. PLUS, AFTER HEARING ELI HAD DESTROYED THE GLENDRONACH, JETT UNDERSTOOD EVEN MORE. IF THERE WAS ANYTHING IN THE WORLD CONNOR SELWYN WAS ABLE TO LOVE, IT WAS HIS WHISKEY. HE WONDERED WHAT ELI WAS THINKING, BUT HE KNEW. SHE WAS AS HARDHEADED AND STUBBORN AS CONNOR. IT WAS A MIRACLE BOTH OF THEM HAD MADE IT OUT OF THE ENCOUNTER ALIVE. THE DOOR WAS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY IN THE LONG RUN.
LEAVING THE HOUSE, HE INSTANTLY SAW HIS TWIN'S FOOTPRINTS LEADING THROUGH THE SNOW TOWARD THE SHED HE USED TO BUILD HIS BOMBS. WALKING AROUND THE BACK OF IT, HE FOUND ELI ENGROSSED IN GRABBING SNOW AND RUBBING DOWN HER HANDS AND ARMS. RAISING AN EYEBROW AT HER WEIRD BEHAVIOR, JETT KNOCKED ON THE OUTER WALL OF THE SHED TO GET HER ATTENTION BEFORE SMILING AT HER WHEN SHE LOOKED AT HIM. "HAVEN'T YOU HEARD OF A SINK, SIS?" HE ASKED WITH A SLIGHT SMILE TO HIS VOICE. HE COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS BOTHERING HER, BUT HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HER PLIGHT. MOVING TOWARD HER, HE GENTLY GRABBED HER SHOULDERS AND GUIDED HER UP ONTO HER FEET. "WHAT'S WRONG, ELI?" HE ASKED, SENSING HER EMOTIONS EVEN MORE THAN SEEING THEM DUE TO THEIR ETHEREAL TWINSENSE. "DID HE HURT YOU? CONNOR CAN BE A VIOLENT ARSE WHEN HE GETS MAD," HE HISSED, CHECKING HER OVER FOR ANY WOUNDS. HIS EYES SETTLED ON HER HAND THAT WAS CUT AND DRIED WHERE SHE'D SLICED IT ON THE BROKEN GLASS FROM THE WHISKEY BOTTLE. "WHAT THE FUCK," HE CURSED, PULLING HER AFTER HIM AS HE LED HER BACK TOWARD THE HOUSE SO HE COULD BIND UP HER WOUND BEFORE IT GOT INFECTED. "IF HE SCREWED WITH YOU, I'M GONNA KILL HIM." IF ONLY HE KNEW HOW IRONIC HIS WORDS WERE. TAGS: eli, NOTES: keep them short |

She couldn't believe what had just happened in there. Never in a million years did Eli think that she'd be screwing Connor Selwyn. She had promised herself that she would never get involved with him. There was no telling how many whores he had been with and now Eli felt just as dirty and as used as the rest of them. Except there had been something different there. She was terrified to question that, but it was still ever present in the back of her mind. Holding her breath for a moment as her mind tried to piece through what had just happened, Eli finally gave up and exhaled sharply. Closing her eyes, she leaned her head back against the shed wall that belonged to Jett, doing her best to just let it all go. But something wasn't allowing her to and that just served to piss her off. Confusion continued to ripple through her and she loathed that. She hated feeling confused. It was an emotion that she always succeeded in keeping at bay, until now. Damn him. She hated him. She couldn't believe he had gotten in like that. In more ways than one.
Practically punching herself, she settled for smacking her head against the shed wall repeatedly. "Idiot. I can't believe this. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid." On the third smack she was suddenly aware of muffled footsteps in the snow. She dropped the red colored snow that was in her hand that had only smeared the blood around and looked over. Seeing her twin brother come around the corner instead of a certain someone made her relax instantly. Her shoulders weren't tense anymore, but then she remembered what had just occurred. Her gaze changed instantly to a guarded look and she forced a smile on her face as Levi gave her one. "Sink? Oh, oh right. Of course. Just had to get away from that prick." She tried covering herself but she knew he would see straight through it. They could and would always be able to tell when the other was lying. Sighing, she stood with the help of her brother, her body trembling from the cold. And then it started. She saw his eyes flash and she knew that this wouldn't be easy. "Jett, it's fine. I'm fine. He didn't hurt me." That was honestly the truth. He hadn't hurt her. It was rough, but it had been something she had needed and wanted, and lusted for. As Jett started dragging her to the house, she put on the brakes, digging the heels of her boots into the ground. "Levi! Just stop it!" She snapped heatedly, praying it got his attention now.

EVEN AS ELI BATTED AWAY HIS WORDS, HE COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH HER. SHE PROMISED HIM CONNOR HADN'T HURT HER, BUT HE DIDN'T BELIEVE HER. SHE WAS ACTING SO STRANGELY, SO UN-ELI. SHE WAS ALWAYS SO LEVELHEADED AND COOL, SHARP-WITTED AND SHARP-TONGUED, AND NOW SHE WAS BABBLING AND BUMBLING ABOUT LIKE A FOOL. HE'D NEVER SEEN HER LIKE THIS, EVEN AFTER SHE'D COME HOME FROM THE MILITARY, AND THEN HE'D KNOWN SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED SHE'D NEVER CONFIDED IN HIM. BUT HE'D NEVER PUSHED HER. THE TWINS WERE ALIKE IN THAT REGARD: PUSH THEM TOO HARD AND YOU GET A STONE WALL THROWN UP IN YOUR FACE. SO, WHEN SHE CLAIMED CONNOR HADN'T HURT HER, JETT DIDN'T PUSH FOR ANY MORE ANSWERS. HE WOULDN'T GET THEM, SO WHY TRY?
HE BEGAN PULLING HER TOWARD THE HOUSE, BUT SHE FOUGHT HIM AND STRONGLY PULLED AWAY, MAKING HIM STUMBLE SLIGHTLY AND TURN BACK TO LOOK AT HER IN CONFUSION. "IF NOTHING HAPPENED IN THE KITCHEN, THEN WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?" HIS SISTER WAS THE ONLY PERSON HE ALLOWED TO CALL HIM BY HIS GIVEN NAME, LEVI, AND SHE USUALLY ONLY DID IT WHEN SHE REALLY WANTED TO GET HIS ATTENTION. OTHERWISE, SHE WOULD JUST CALL HIM JETT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. SO WHEN HE HEARD HIS NAME, HIS EYEBROWS RAISED AND HE CROSSED HIS ARMS OVER HIS CHEST. "IT'S FREEZING OUT HERE, ELLE. CAN WE PLEASE GO BACK INSIDE?" HE WAS TOO STUBBORN TO GO WITHOUT HER, AND HE KNEW SHE KNEW IT. "YOU TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON, AND WE GO BACK INSIDE, OR... YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON, AND WE GO INSIDE ANYWAY. THE CHOICE IS YOURS." HE HELD OUT A HAND TOWARD HER, OFFERING HER THE CHOICE TO ACCOMPANY HIM THIS TIME INSTEAD OF FORCING HER. NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT WAS GOING ON IN HER HEAD, HE HADN'T KNOWN HOW BADLY SHE WANTED TO STAY OUT AND FREEZE HER ASS OFF IN THE SNOW. "IT'S THOSE OPTIONS, OR I GO INSIDE AND BEAT THE HELL OUT OF CONNOR UNTIL HE TELLS ME WHY YOU'VE SUDDENLY LOST YOUR MIND. WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER?" HE ASKED, SMILING MISCHIEVOUSLY. As she stood there in front of her twin brother, Eli was hit with a wall of emotions and memories. For some reason that moment with Connor, when she felt extremely trapped by his action of shooting the door in, everything from the marines came rushing back. She had done her best to block it out, to keep those images at bay but even now she saw it all and felt it all. She heard her own screams and she heard the laughter of the men that had captured her. She felt the sting of hands and knives, felt the shot to her shoulder and heard their racial slurs and insults. Eli had never felt so diminished. She had never felt so embarrassed and degraded in her entire life. They had ruined a part of her and she realized now why the things that Connor said never really affected her. She didn't feel. She wasn't supposed to feel. The fact that she was feeling now brought her straight back to the things that she had never accepted or spoke about before. Pain filled her usually emotionless eyes as she looked up at Jett, and her heart skipped a beat as she remembered the pain and torment she had gone through while being a marine. She hated the fact that Connor had brought this all up once more.
"Levi..." His name left her lips in a whisper as she stood across from him, watching his hand waiting before her. She couldn't go back in there. It didn't matter how cold she was or how infected her hand was going to be. She couldn't go back in there for fear of seeing Connor in this state. She couldn't be further embarrassed by him. Inhaling sharply as she felt the warmth of tears gathering at the back of her eyes, Eli stared up at him with desperation in her eyes. "I was drinking his whiskey and we both know how Connor is...with his whiskey. He...he was being insulting, as always, so I g-got pissed. I smashed the b-bottle. And then..he came at me and I cut him...on his arm." She was speaking as if she was far away from the situation, and as her hand went to her own arm to show Levi where she had cut Connor, she lost it. Something broke inside of her and she felt a single tear slip down her cheek. Levi was going to know something was desperately wrong. "And he shot the d-door. And it just all...Levi it just brought me back to then. To when...in the marines and...when they had me and wouldn't let me go. I don't know why..." She was using her situation in the marines to cover up what she was really feeling and what had really happened, but she knew she was ready to tell her brother what happened. She was ready to tell him why she was so different after coming back from war. In another instant she stepped forward, burying her face in Jett's shoulder and wrapping her arms around him. this was the kind of relationship they had. She needed her brother.

IT WAS CLEAR TO HIM AS ELI CONTINUED TO STAND NUMBLY BEFORE HIM THAT SOMETHING WAS FAR MORE WRONG THAN SHE WANTED TO LET ON. THEN, AS SHE BEGAN TO EXPLAIN, HE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THOSE DAYS AFTER SHE'D RETURNED FROM WAR, AND HIS OWN PAIN RESURFACED. FOR SO LONG, HIS SISTER HAD BEEN ALL HE HAD. THEY LOST THEIR PARENTS TO THE IRA, AND THEY'D BEEN THE ONLY FAMILY EITHER OF THEM HAD LEFT. HE REMEMBERED HOW HER EYES HAD CHANGED WHEN SHE CAME HOME. SHE'D BEEN BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL ONCE, AND ALTHOUGH SHE STILL ACTED THAT WAY, HER EYES DIDN'T SHOW IT. THEY HAD THE SAME EYES, MANY PEOPLE SAID, AND THEY BOTH SHOWED THEIR EMOTIONS OPENLY IN THOSE EYES. IT WAS JUST A TRAIT THEY COULDN'T HIDE. WHILE THEY WERE BOTH EXCEPTIONAL LIARS, NEITHER OF THEM COULD HIDE WHAT WAS GOING ON BEHIND THEIR EYES. THANKFULLY, FEW PEOPLE KNEW THIS TRUTH ABOUT THEM OR KNEW HOW TO READ THOSE EMOTIONS, BUT JETT WAS AN EXPERT ON IT. HE'D BEEN LOOKING AT HIS SISTER'S FACE SINCE BEFORE EITHER OF THEM COULD SEE FARTHER THAN A FEW FEET, AND HE KNEW HER LIKE A BOOK HE'D READ DOZENS OF TIMES. SHE COULD HIDE FROM HIM NO BETTER THAN HE COULD HIDE FROM HER.
SO AS SHE BEGAN SPILLING WHAT HE BELIEVED WAS THE TRUTH, HIS HAND DROPPED TO HIS SIDE AND HE STEPPED BACK TOWARD HER THROUGH THE SNOW. SHE SPEWED HER EXPLANATION, HOW SHE'D TAKEN THE WHISKEY AND THEN CUT CONNOR WHEN CONNOR HAD ATTACKED HER (SOMETHING, JETT THOUGHT TO HIMSELF, THE IRISHMAN WAS GOING TO REGRET, BUT HE KEPT IT TO HIMSELF). SOMETIMES HE HAD TO LET ELI FIGHT HER OWN BATTLES, BUT HE WAS STUBBORN AND OVERPROTECTIVE. EVERYONE KNEW IT.
HE DIDN'T THINK TO ASK HER WHAT HAD HAPPENED AFTER THE DOOR CAVED IN. HE'D HEARD THE SHOT FROM ACROSS THE MANSION, AND HE'D GONE AS SOON AS HE'D HEARD IT. GRANTED, IT WAS A LONG JOURNEY ACROSS THE COMPLEX, BUT THEY COULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN THERE THAT LONG, SO HE DIDN'T THINK ANY MORE ABOUT IT. INSTEAD, HIS ARMS WRAPPED AROUND HER AS SHE FELL AGAINST HIM, HER TEARS SOAKING INTO HIS SHIRT AS SHE BEGAN TO CRY. HE ABSOLUTELY HATED IT WHEN HIS SISTER CRIED. HE FELT LIKE THE WORLD WAS BREAKING IN HALF AND TAKING HIM WITH IT WHEN SHE CRIED. THANKFULLY, SHE DIDN'T DO IT OFTEN, BUT IT TORE HIM UP WHEN SHE WAS IN PAIN. "WHAT HAPPENED, ELLE..." HE ASKED, USING HIS NICKNAME FOR HER AS HE SMOOTHED DOWN HER HAIR WHILE SHE CRIED IN HIS ARMS. "WHEN YOU WERE AT WAR... YOU NEVER TOLD ME WHAT HAPPENED..." HIS VOICE WAS SOOTHING AND SOFT, ONLY GUIDING HER IF SHE CHOSE TO TAKE HIM ON A JOURNEY INTO THAT PAST SHE'D KEPT SO LOCKED UP TIGHT. TAGS: eli, NOTES: awwwww <3333 |

She couldn't tell him out here. She couldn't risk the fact that someone was going to see her break down and use it to their advantage. As she pushed all thoughts of the situation she had just experienced with Connor out of her mind, she clung to her brother, doing her best to hide the fact that she was crying. She hid her face in his chest now, trying to steady herself but only losing it further. Her shoulders rocked with the silent sobs that she had wanted to let go all of these years and she realized now that maybe this was what she had needed to let it go. Maybe she needed to tell Jett in order to get over what had happened to her. Maybe she needed to just talk about it in order to feel better. She wasn't ready to let their parents go yet, but she should have known that Jett realized she wasn't right. She had been so busy trying to keep him as sane as possible after all of the tragedies in their lives that she hadn't even thought about him knowing that she wasn't alright.
Admonishing herself for her stupidity, she wondered how long he had been silently worrying about her. He would have never pushed her to speak about what she kept so locked up inside of her, but his patience astounded her. She would have never made him spill either because she knew how they both were. It all made sense to her now and she wanted to thank him until he got so annoyed that he told her to quit it. Closing her eyes as she leaned against her twin, she wondered if he had been able to feel her desperation all of these years. She could always feel when he was angry or upset, so she wondered if it was the same when it came to him sensing her. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled softly, still burying herself in his strong arms. The tears stopped falling gradually, and she knew she'd be able to explain everything to him better if she wasn't crying. Pulling back from him as he questioned her, she nodded slightly. "Okay. But not here." She told him honestly and then took his hand. There was only one place that she knew they'd be safe to talk without any interruptions. Walking back to his shed, she opened the door and led him in, closing and locking it behind them both.
She went to his work bench without hesitation, pulling her small body up onto the stool without any issues. She was smaller than a lot of the men here, but she was extremely strong and well trained. The marines had done wonders for her physical condition even if it had shattered her mentally. She was the strongest woman in the compound, there was no doubting that. And she was the best gun runner that any mob had ever seen. She would never let that get to her head though. It was her job. Her life. Of course she did it well. Sighing softly, she looked down and picked up one of Jett's many lighters, playing with it as she wiped away the last tear that fell from her cheek. Clicking the lighter on, she stared into the flame, holding the wheel down until it became too hot to touch. Letting it slip back into place, she took a deep breath and exhaled, looking back up to him after a few more moments. She needed to tell him. She needed to be honest with him. He had waited long enough and it was too long now.
"Levi, I need you to realize that there's nothing you can possibly do now. It's in the past and it needs to stay there. This is the last time I will ever talk about it." She informed him point blank, her strength returning as her voice grew stronger. This was the Eli he knew. She was strong even when she spoke of her weakest moments. "My team and I were on a mission behind enemy lines, as per usual. Everything had been scouted perfectly. Everything. I had gone over all of the plans and information four times with the commanding officer. Everything was in place Levi, everything." She said desperately, her eyes losing focus as she lost herself in the moment. Staring into space, she saw everything as if it was yesterday, as she saw it every night in her nightmares. Every single member of the team was gunned down and killed when we reached the breach point. Something had gone wrong and I still can't figure out what it was. They didn't kill me. They shot me, wounded me, but they didn't kill me. Jett, I almost wished they had but I would never be able to forgive myself if I didn't go back to you. You were all that I had and I was all that you had so I refused to die because of that reason alone. You kept me strong and sane Levi. You did." She whispered, her voice catching even though she didn't want it to. The tears came now as she recounted the worst part of what had happened to her.
"They blindfolded me and took me to where I was kept in the dark for the next month. They beat me. They tortured me for information but I refused to give it. They were asking me question that I...that I never thought I knew the answer t-to until they questioned me. But s-still I refused to speak. It...they...w-when they couldn't get what t-they wanted by beating me...they...f-forced themselves on me. I fought them as much as I c-could with what strength I had left. B-But...they tied me down so I couldn't put up a fight. I don't know h-how many of them used me...I lost count after...after ten. Then suddenly, they let me go. I don't know why and I will never question it but that's what happened. It's my fault. I missed something in the plans. I m-missed something Levi." She whispered once more, losing it then. Her face was in her hands as she began crying once more. She was more broken than she had ever let her brother see. What she carried was more than a woman, or anyone should have to carry alone. It was sad really, but Eli refused to feel sorry for herself. She just didn't know what to do anymore now.
