At first she was at odds with Tai, not used to having a brother, and there was a period of several months where the new siblings couldn't seem to get along. They fought like cats and dogs for a while, until Bell switched sides and decided Tai wasn't such a bad person. He was suspicious at first, but soon the pair settled into a cautious respect that developed into real familial love. After the crash that killed Crystal and devastated David, Bell chose to harden her heart against sorrow, already knowing the pain of losing a mother. She didn't really understand it and still doesn't, having only been 16 at the time, but seems to be trying to distance herself from the event before it can really hurt her.
