He made a fatal mistake when Janie was sixteen. He went to Victor Grey and begged him for money. The man had hesitated at first, wondering if the poor bastard would be bad for business or not. Against his better judgment, he agreed to give the man a loan. When he wasn't able to pay back the loan, he gave up the only thing he cherished to repay the debts and to save his own skin. He gave Victor his only child. She had went along hesitantly at first, although she soon had a surprise of her own. Not only did Victor take her under his wing, but he also became a father figure to her. Whenever somebody got too close, he was quick to wave a weapon or drop a threat. She had the switch from public school to private school and each time they moved, she met new people and saw different places. She quickly learned not to get attached. Victor kept her out of the life for as long as he possibly could but then, on the day she graduated, as a way to celebrate, he put her training to use. She seduced a rival arms dealer then gunned him down with his own weapon. Victor couldn't have been prouder, and she basked in the glow of his praise. What they had (and have) was never romantic. She was his student and the child he'd probably never have, despite the fact he later knocked up a stupid broad. When they weren't working, she was no stranger to sprawling on his lap and watching television with him. Even though she was his student, he refused to let her meet the 'big fish.' Over the course of the next five years, she built up her own reputation. True to her mentor's teachings, she found herself on Interpol's most wanted. Similar to her mentor, they had no idea what she looked like, only that the rats called her J. On the outside, it appeared that Vic worked alone but when it came right down to the heart of the matter, he had a partner in crime, and he'd be damned if she met the big fish or risked what they had worked so hard to build. It was a lot of the reason he made her stay in her room when he met with clients or threatened to slaughter potential lovers. She never asked questions, knowing exactly what he was capable of doing. She had seen him work several times in the past, after all. She made her own connections and used the skills she had when dealing with the gender that her mentor couldn't swoon. When all else failed, she got her gun and pulled the trigger. Indeed, Miss Janie was quite trigger happy. On that fifth year, she felt betrayed, to say the least. He was leaving for Sapphire Bay without her. He had told her to keep building her reputation and to wait for him. She tried doing that for three years, tried hard to surpass her mentor, only to find that it was almost impossible. She settled for being just below him on the list. During the third year, she finally decided to rebel. She followed her master to Sapphire Bay and was adamant to stay put. personality Mysterious is Aubrey. She is a woman who does not talk about herself very often and so it is hard to get close to her or know much about her. Her past is something that she simply will not discuss, and when questioned, it’s not at all unusual for her to respond with a half-mocking comment or completely change the topic. No one knows much about her, and she prefers to keep it that way, holding everyone at arm’s length when it comes to her feelings or thoughts. Though it is blatantly obvious to those who talk to her that she is an exceptionally smart woman – her way of wording things often appears intellectual, even polite; she rarely bothers with slang or any kind of ‘lazy’ speech patterns – it’s hard to know anything about her hopes or dreams. What she does say is rarely what she means, too. She’s very fond of using manners as a distancing technique, shielding everyone out from getting close to her, and she’s had years to perfect her technique. Know that what you see with her is exactly what she wants you to see, and her demeanor rarely gives anything away – especially not about her motives or thoughts. Secrets are something she enjoys keeping. Beneath the surface lurks a cold and calculating woman. Ruthless, there is very little she is unwilling to do in order to accomplish her goals – whatever they may be at the moment. Some might say that she has no conscience; because she keeps people at arm’s length all the time, it’s very difficult for her to get worked up or care about someone. She’s capable of doing things that others would deem monstrous, and she doesn’t bat an eye; she’s more than willing to be a monster if it’s necessary to what she wants – whatever that may be at the moment. “Icy” is a word frequently applied to her personality and it is oh-so-true. Like the cold still of the dark, she gives almost nothing away about her emotions, her thoughts, her plans. It can be difficult to trust her simply because she seems to feel absolutely nothing and takes great pains to appear very formal, particularly with people she doesn’t know well. “The ends justify the means,” is a philosophy she subscribes to wholeheartedly. If that means pretending to like someone in order to betray them later... so be it. She’ll gladly do it if it suits what she wants. The reason it is so hard to get close to her runs deeper than the skeletons in her closet. Her mindset is that if she keeps people at a distance, she won’t grow fond of them and thus won’t be hurt when they inevitably leave her – be it in a rage or death. Once someone actually does manage to get close to her (a project like unraveling every thread in a net to find the single golden one, really), she is a fiercely loyal friend, knowing no limits to what she would do for someone she cares about. The problem is that she doesn’t give her emotions freely; she is very fond of weighing every option, pros and cons, thinking everything through. Hasty is not something that she’ll ever be and it’s more likely that people will think her heartless than want to get close to her – something that she approves of. Typically she treats everyone with cold formality. Rude is not something she would ever be, and it’s also rare for her to say anything directly. Trying to understand what is going on behind her distant, brown eyes is really like finding a specific needle in a huge stack of them – damn near impossible. She does, however, have quite a mischievous streak that people who talk to her will quickly come to realize. While she isn’t verbally antagonistic, it’s actually not that unusual for her to do things to deliberately irk others. She does like attention, and she likes being harmlessly playful most of the time... people that she doesn’t like, though, get the ‘harmless’ part removed. She will be deliberately malicious in a way that can never be proven as intentionally cruel just to prove a point, and she has a remarkable memory for grievances. Most of the time, though, she’s just mildly amusing. Her sense of humor can be offensive to others or described as ‘black’ but she does possess one. It’s just... dry. Cold. Like most of her.
