She had to adjust to having a roommate; a spoiled princess like her never had to do this before. It was going to kill her, because no matter how much she tried to give him space he was always there and she was seeing things she should not actually see. She didn’t outright accuse him of doing it on purpose because he was her bodyguard, but he knew her body didn’t need guarding in her own home but it did not stop them from running into each other. Most times it was her lack of knocking on the bathroom door. Sometimes it was more embarrassing than others. One time she burst in when he was pissing and his piss went flying and she went backpedaling out of the bathroom as fast as she could manage. He was a true gentleman, to her surprise. He asked if she was okay, to which she replied she was and she apologized for not knocking. She heard the sink run and she knew he was cleaning up the mess. It was her fault and she would have done it, but she appreciated him all the more. She tried to remind herself to knock from then on.
Most times it was when he was helping out around the vineyard and she would see from her office. She had to bite her lip in the sudden flare of lust. Sweat glisten his back as he worked while working. The taut skin of his muscles as he flexed hauling things around with the workers – it drove her insane with insatiable lust for him, but she would shake it off and find one of her men to fill her sudden need. She couldn’t cross the line with him, with Rafe. Though she found him appearing in her dreams when she went to be horny without any sort of fulfillment and with a man with raw and natural sex appeal like Rafe and her men she bounced between not always being available, it happened nightly. It made her evaluate exactly what she was doing with these two guys that were polar opposites. One, she didn’t know anything about Connor, but she found him being the one who filled her needs more often Caleb did. It was like their bodies just fit together when they had sex. it was passionate in terms of fulfillment and they both got, in her opinions, amazing orgasms out of it. What she disliked was his neglect to wear a condom, every time they got together. She began to bring them, but it didn’t matter it seemed. He was going bareback and if she wanted the ride she would have to suck it up and let him do as he pleased.
Caleb, she found his approach to sex more reserved than Connor. He did use the condoms; he always brought one with him wherever they ended up meeting. he was lacking in a few departments, but out of the two of them only Caleb had potential for anything more down the many roads in years. For the first thing, Juniper felt like Caleb didn’t know how to love a woman as much as he knew how to use his penis. Her orgasms weren’t as powerful and they were short and brief. He focused on getting her off and then he would get off and then it would be over. With Connor it was wild and they just happened. She only briefly thought if maybe it was because she never allowed Caleb to kiss her that he was lacking, but she hardly doubted the contact of lips would change anything. She kept Caleb, but it was because their friendship was good. He found her funny and she found what he said funny. She enjoyed the time they spent together, but she knew, somewhere – that Caleb was just her best friend. She didn’t want to cut him off from their sex, but she had to let it dwindle. She had to cut ties from Connor, no matter how well the sex, and start dating men that would actually tend to her needs.
With Rafe around the house, he would do things she didn’t think to do often. He cleaned without being asked to and he took the puppy for walks when Juniper was huddled up in front of the computer, typing away numbers and turning to figure them out on paper. He even cooked, simple meals that were native to Romania, but Juniper enjoyed them a lot. It brightened her day when he cooked her food, because she never expected it, but it must mean he was only doing his job and it touched her heart. She looked at the plate of food he brought in earlier and smiled, she didn’t remember what he said it was, but she remembered the taste. It was three a.m. and she knew she had worked too long on her latest client. She shut her laptop down before shuffling off to her bedroom.
She didn’t sleep well, she was wide awake and her mind was running. Now on things she wanted to accomplish. She wanted a child, when she was thirty and married to a man. She wanted a faithful relationship, no other women, no lies. What a dream she drifted off, but she shut up. There was sunlight peering through the windows. She pushed herself out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She pushed the door open, but she didn’t feel the thick heavy steam in the air until she walked smack dab right into Rafe. She was looking at his neck, her hands were splayed touching his chest. He was….wet… Her instincts told her to look down, so she did. Yep… that’s his penis….. Oh Christ, Juniper stop staring at it like it’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen… But it is… She shot her head up, their eyes met, it seemed longer than the few seconds it were. She pulled away and picked up his towel and they started tugging, why couldn’t she stop. Now she didn’t know what to do…. She couldn’t stop staring at him… She was embarrassed but she was overcome with one sweeping sensation. She dropped the towel and he wrapped it around his beautiful manhood. This man was her bodyguard, but she wanted to sleep with him… he took care of her, but it was his job. She didn’t want it to be his job, she wanted him… to love her… Why? No, she was just tired and now she was horny. She moved across the room, threw herself into his arms and kissed him. The way she needed to kiss someone.

His job had been to protect her, not cook or clean or work in the vineyard for her. He had been specifically paid to only stand there and follow her around like a shadow that would spring into action whenever the time came. That time never happened and thus, he had to do something with his time, right? That was why he took to cooking for her whenever she was busy with work in her office. He grew to not be surprised that she didn’t have a maid or chef on staff-just the people who worked in the vineyard which weren’t much to begin with and the majority just needed help with the heavy lifting which was what he did most of the time. He liked getting his hands dirty and being able to move around, do something. He didn’t like sitting around being useless. The farm in Romania was always kept clean between all of them, not just his wife and his cousin. He called them, his family back home, every single day since he’d asked Juniper if he could use her house phone for it. He couldn’t run up his cellphone bill with long distance calls. It wouldn’t be the brightest of ideas to call Romania…
Last night, Rafe hadn’t been able to sleep. He had gone for a jog around the property a couple of times to clear his mind. The problem wasn’t the lack of things to do because he could always find something. It was that he kept running into Juniper. Sure, he was supposed to be around her, but most of the time she spent indoors or on the property and she had no threats there. He had walked in on her with that Caleb guy only once and it was because it was in a guest room and one of the workers had seemed sick and Rafe was letting him lay down while he waited for his ride. He didn’t expect to open the door to one of the guest rooms, since he always knocked to any of Juniper’s personal rooms, and see her riding some random guy in the bed. Thank God they were under the covers. He had turned so red, mumbled a couple of apologies, and then shut the door as quickly as he’d opened it. The guy hadn’t seen him, hell he didn’t even seem to notice the interruption and later, when Juniper brought it up while he was making her dinner, he just kept quiet and let her say what she had to say before he apologized again, put the food in front of her, cleaned up while she ate, and then disappeared outside for a walk to call his family and clear his mind of that mental image. He’d only seen her bare back and he already had a million things, x rated and not so x rated, running through his mind at a mile a minute. Most of them consisted of something simple like lifting her dark hair to see the nape and then kissing her neck. That wasn’t so horrible. The rest, well, it was mighty different.
His sudden insomnia was why he was now just stepping out of the shower. In Romania, they didn’t have locks on their doors just because the house was incredibly old and every door had the same key-which was lost forever ago. They lived in the middle of nowhere so they didn’t even lock their front or back door. The only door that was locked with a deadbolt was the metal shed which had all the told in there and that wasn’t installed until his niece was born-for her own personal safety. The second she learned to walk-she went everywhere on the property so it was definitely necessary. The bathroom was steamy, but only because he needed to hot water to relax his muscles from running. His little jog had turned into an intense run once his mind ran over to Juniper…and his wife. He should be wearing his ring and thinking about finding her but hadn’t he given up on that idea when he took up this job? And there couldn’t be anything wrong with fantasizing, right? No, mentally cheating was just as bad as physically cheating. His grandfather had told him that a million times over as a kid-to keep his mind from wandering as well as his eyes.
But right now, he was ridiculously caught off guard when someone seemed to smack into his chest before he could get to the towel on the rack. He was partially standing on the rug and partially in the tub and as he looked down at the brunette, he noticed her looking down and he could feel his eyes go a little wider and his cheeks and ears turn the brightest of red. He could only imagine what she was thinking…looking at his manhood…when she obviously had two others on the side. He drove her to see one of them and the other came here. He highly doubted she’d need a third and in the back of his mind, he told himself she didn’t. More on her plate wouldn’t help the cause and he didn’t want to be anyone’s “just in case” guy. If he was going to be with someone again…
He didn’t have time to think of any of that, however, as she seemed to pounce on him. Rafe had never been pounced on before-or at least not since he was a teenager…with his wife. She’d been the only female he had ever been with-call him a hopeless romantic. He didn’t hesitate to move, of course he didn’t. Instinct took over the second their lips met. It was almost primitive, the way they matched each other, but there was something behind their movements that almost seemed vital, like they both needed it-not one more than the other. It was a longing that had fire and passion behind it. His towel ended up on the floor and so did her bra and underwear as he seemed to hungrily tear them off of her. How long had it been? Two years, maybe three? Too long. That was all that mattered. He stopped their heavy tonsil hockey when they seemed to reach her bedroom (somehow because even he didn’t know how that happened when he was so intently focused on her and keeping her wrapped around his waist) and he practically threw her back onto the already messy sheets. It was then he seemed to slow down and stop to take her in as he hovered above her, his bright blue orbs holding all the warmth a man like Rafe could hold. They traced over her slender frame and he took his time as he drank her in, letting him lips and hands roam all over and giving her as much satisfaction as possible. He was as selfless in bed as he was in everyday life so it wasn’t an entire surprise in that department. Before he could even start, though, he looked right into her eyes, “You’re beautiful.”
He wasn’t lying. She was and always would be. He didn’t know if anyone had ever told her that but he didn’t care. He meant it and it was obvious he meant it. He wasn’t saying it to get in her pants. He never said nice things to get something in return. But once that was out and he let it set in for a bit, he dove in with no questions asked. He kept her close to him, tightly, the entire time as if her moving away from him would suddenly cause his world to collapse and cave in around him. He wanted her to feel as beautiful as she was, worth every cell in her body, as much of a woman as she was because she deserved all of that/. She worked too damn hard and he knew damn well those other men didn’t appreciate her like they should-if not then she wouldn’t have two of them. Each were lacking something and he was just hoping he wasn’t lacking. Rafe let everything come naturally and he let go of all the passion, longing, lust, and vital needs he had toward her pent up for a while now.
How many times did they do it after that? He wasn’t counting…he was too preoccupied. At the moment, he was moving her dark hair out of the way as he held her from behind, his arms wrapped around her small waist to keep her back against his chiseled abdomen. Kissing her neck (HA his fantasies full filled!), he nuzzled his nose against her a bit, “You’re amazing, you know that?” he whispered the words in her ear as if it were some kind of secret. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn’t but at the moment, it was just the two of them in their own quiet world-everyone else be damned.

Juniper didn’t want to be a lonely, restless soul forever. She only had five years until she was thirty. She didn’t want to be single and flirty thirty – she wanted to be married by then. She wanted a baby and to be pregnant with her second child by then. She refused to have her first child when she was forty like her mother. She wanted to be a married woman with kids running around already before forty. It was her dream, one she kept hidden in heart, the life of a housewife and stay-at-home mom. She didn’t go through with it in a manner that normal women would, she was already a millionaire and the money kept stocking up. She had a number in her head she wanted to accomplish so she could afford possibly anything her baby would need. She didn’t feel the two men she had in her life would become anything as far as a relationship. The one who had potential was keeping her in the friend zone and the other was so mysterious she didn’t know exactly if she would ever want anything more than just the sex. The man who was taking care of her was now within reach, trapped between her and the tub.
When their lips met, it was all that she expected and more than what she expected. She was so overwhelmed from desire and any grogginess from being half awake was forced out of her by the meeting of their lips. Rafe’s mouth, the plump and firm of his lips, the way they moved against hers – it melted Juniper into his arms. She told herself she would be satisfied kissing for hours, but the ache and warmth of need building within her told her otherwise. She wanted to feel what she already saw and she wanted to be pleasured by the man she had been secretly watching and waiting to see if could be anything. She didn’t know if her decision to do this was the right one, as she was tired and could be accused of not being in her right mind when she pounced, wouldn’t be clear until after the fact when she looked back on it without Rafe near her. For now, everything they wanted was clear – they wanted each other and they weren’t waiting for the night. It was the early morning and sometimes, it was the best time for sex.
His towel dropped to the floor as her hands traveled down his toned flesh in silent desire approval. His hands, so big and rough from working out in the vineyard unlatched her bra and he ease it down her arm, the taut skin of her breasts felt expose, prickling with goose bumps as his hands traveled down and around her. She had a brief panic that maybe she wouldn’t be what he wanted in a woman and it made her nervous as she never felt worried about what a man thought before this moment. It was because they were kissing, she was much more vulnerable to what his thoughts were of her. his hands traveled down to take off her underwear before lifting her up, her legs wrapped around his waist and her arms around his neck. Their kisses hardly let up as they left the bathroom, he guided them to her room and she felt her back hit her messy sheets and she smiled at him above her. There was something powerfully different with him than the others, she could place it on the kisses, but his kisses were good – they made her melt inside.
The heat and blood rushed to her face as he told her she was beautiful. They were words she heard before from other men, but when he said it she felt a surge of happiness from the acknowledgement – it was all different than anything else she ever had in her life. She beckoned Rafe down and for the next two hours she had never felt something so passionate, wild, and sincere at the same time. She was so blissfully tired by the time that they were finished. She could hardly roll over and she found him securing her back against his chest. She happy sighed and almost purred as he placed a kiss on the back of her neck. His thick accent in his voice as he told her she was amazing and question as she knew that summoned enough energy to roll and lay up against him. Her breasts against his chest and she wrapped her arms around him to keep a firm hold. She nuzzled her head up underneath his chin, her heart was so filled with emotion and she was tired.
“I find you, so very amazing. I want to know more…” But there wasn’t any time for him to tell her anything if he was going to as she found herself drifting, plummeting into a deep slumber until she was well rested. She would have to make note that if you go to bed at three a.m. and promptly wake up at six a.m. and have some wild, passionate sex that you needed more than three hours of sleep if Rafe was her partner. He was very warm and made her so comfortable that she didn’t realize she had unlatched from him and curled up into a ball in her bedroom. After a five hour nap, she rolled over to where she wanted him to be and to her surprised he was still there. She smiled; she was touched that he stayed. She slept for so long, he must have gotten bored waiting for her to wake up. She rolled and shimmied over to snuggle up to him. She felt so loved, for once in her life, but maybe he was just doing his job. She wouldn’t trouble herself in thinking, she just wanted to feel. “Afternoon..” She whispered as she kissed underneath his chin and nuzzled it with her nose. “Are you hungry? I am…”

His dream had been a frightful one. It had started off with him in a maze. He was walking through it, at first; practically strolling around like it was totally normal to be in a maze in the middle of a sun shower. He was almost drowsy as he walked and a pang of nostalgia hit him as the scent of sunflowers hit his nose. They used to grow all over the back fields where the wild horses used to run on his farm in Romania! Was he home? He had to be though he’d never seen this maze before. And as he walked, he didn’t feel any sort of panic at the fact he was probably lost. It was like he was okay with it but soon, the sound of someone screaming his name, as if their heart was being ripped out of their chest, slowly drifted into his ears. It was then the panic kicked in and he felt like cleats went right into his gut. He started off as a light jog, unaware and disoriented as to where the noise might be coming from. It was like he had headphones on and the sound of the sun shower was all he could hear. The voice grew louder and thus more familiar as he started to move a little faster. It was a female’s…and as he heard the scream, he realized it was…Juniper!
Without thinking twice, he raced toward the sound, attempting to weave through the maze and find her. He screamed out her name, trying to hear where she could be and in which direction but it sounded like she was all around him, hurting, in pain, suffering and he was stuck in this maze unable to reach her. This comfortable maze that seemed so inviting at first was now a nightmare within itself. At one point, he felt soft hands that had never done an inch of labor in their lives cover his eyes and turn him around. He recognized the perfume and felt his heart get torn apart at the realization of who it was. As the hands were moved away, his eyes landed on his wife, beautiful and charming, smiling at him in her wedding gown with the veil over her face. She beckoned him as she removed the veil and placed a deep kiss on his lips, “Time to come home, my love…” her fingers laced into his own as she started walking in the direction he’d just come from, taking him backwards before Juniper’s screams hit him again. It made him stop dead in his tracks, unable to figure out whether he should follow the woman he’d been trying to find all his life-the love he thought he could never get over-or if he should find Juniper and save her like he was supposed to from whatever was harming her. “Oh, now you care about her? What about me, huh, Rafey? Your wife…the one who’s ring you keep around your neck? The one who you vowed to be with through sickness and in health? Through the good and bad till death do we part?”
And then the scream again.
“Just let me help her…I promise I’ll be back…don’t I always come back?” he was pleading with her as he started pulling away, untangling his fingers from hers. She scowled and grabbed his wrist tightly, “No! It isn’t okay! You won’t come back! You never do!” she was yelling at him angrily with heavy tears flooding her eyes, “If you go to her, don’t expect me to be here when you come back!” Rafe hesitated again. How could she say he never came back? He always did…he never tried to fail her, not once. He always tried his absolute hardest to make her happy…And as the uncertainty filled his eyes and the void in his chest, he saw the tears start to dry and her scowl be replaced with rays of sunshine, a glow he didn’t think could possibly come from her. For a moment, he seemed to give in, but as yet another scream came from all around, he let her go and turned his back to her, racing toward wherever Juniper could be. He couldn’t just leave her…What if something horrible happened to her? It was his job to protect her…though it was becoming more of an undying physical need than anything. As he rounded a corner, he heard the terrible ear splitting screech from his wife as she called out to him and cried for him not to leave her but he kept going and finally, he found Juniper, grabbing her large and round stomach he never remembered seeing her with. Her own white dress was stained red as she reached out to him looking sick and helpless and he quickly scooped her up, “Everything will be okay…” he said to her as she clutched him like he was her life support but even he wasn’t sure he could believe himself. Was everything going to be okay…?
Or was it all going to turn into one hell of a disaster?
When Rafe woke up, she was still asleep and for a second, he panicked, his eyes going down to her stomach to make sure it was still flat and smooth like it had been when he’d fallen asleep and making sure she wasn’t bleeding anywhere. His eyes swept across the room on the hunt for his angry wife who he left behind for someone new-who needed his help possibly more than she did. When he finally relaxed, Juniper seemed to wake up and though he wanted to fall back asleep, he knew he shouldn’t. He had to call home and tell them he was sending them some money so they could go into the town and pick it up, “I’ll make us some brunch, yea?” he smiled sweetly as she nuzzled him and gave him a kiss. It had been so long since he had something this easy…just waking up next to someone was enough to make the man ecstatic about the rest of the day. With ease, he slipped away from her, using the thinnest of the sheets (so she wouldn’t be cold) to wrap around his waist since she’d caught him in the shower and he didn’t really have anything else in that room. He headed, at first, to his room to put on some clothes and then to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Soon enough, he was in the kitchen, making pancakes since, honestly, he didn’t know what Americans ate for brunch and pancakes just seemed right enough.

The warmth of waking up next to something was a feeling that Juniper could not replace in her heart. She had locked it away out of pain of failed relationships, but with Rafe by her side it all came back to her. She didn’t want this to end badly, but deep down in the new cut of her sudden burst of complicated feelings for Rafe was the pain and fear that there was something wrong. She didn’t want to vocalize it, so she smiled softly as he said he would make them brunch. She sat up as he left and walked over to the bathroom. Since he was at the shower when she had attacked him with her lips this morning, she had yet to take one and she needed to feel clean. It would bother her if she didn’t. She didn’t know how long it would take him to make whatever it was he was making, but Juniper wouldn’t take a long shower. She was capable of taking a quick shower, so she wasted no time. It was hard to keep the rushing memories of their love-making from her mind but she allowed herself to stand and remember briefly.
Slipping it out, she wrapped her long teal bath towel over her body as she went back to her room. She found herself nervous to face him now. What did he think of her? Did he see her as the whore she was becoming? She didn’t sleep with Caleb anymore, it had happened twice – the time before Rafe was here and the time Rafe walked in on them, but it was over. They saw each other as friends and that was all they would ever be. There was something about the pair that clashed and Juniper couldn’t put it in easy words other than they just didn’t click. With Connor, they were like rabbits whenever they decided they wanted to screw. Connor was a decent lay, but like with most flings it was really one-sided when it came to orgasms. If Juniper wasn’t pleasing herself while he was banging her, she wouldn’t get off. Perhaps she was one of those women who didn’t have orgasms every time she had sex. she read it was normal, but she just had sex with Rafe and it was great. She didn’t want to count the orgasms, but she didn’t have to work for them – he helped her get there and he got there too.
Now it was a matter of facing him after what they did. Would she have to walk on eggshells around him? Although living together, running into each other multiple times, feeling the strong pure sexual tensions and eventually succumbing into those lusts: there was little Juniper knew about Rafe and that was the way he made it. She now found herself wanting to know more about him and his life before he ended up at the airport before her. Did he ever want to go back to Romania to see his family? Was there a woman in his life that she was making him stray from the path of? Was he at all serious or did he just want to fuck her? It would be okay if that was all it was, but she needed to tell herself that now before she got more attached. Juniper was plagued to be a lonely soul forever so she needed to come to terms that it was yet another fling and he wasn’t the man for her. That somewhere in this world of seven billion people and counting that there was a man for her.
She kept it simple: bra, blank tank top, deodorant, and a grey tank-top like over shirt, and then she pulled her butt into some dark jeans. Her hair after a quick brush fell down into curls and she didn’t bother with make-up. What did she really have to hide from Rafe? He did have sex with her when she was not her prettiest – groggy, messy bed hair and remnants of yesterday’s make up were not exactly the biggest turn on for any man. It made her heart swell and ache in her heart – he told her she was beautiful and amazing when she looked like a crack addict and washed-up porn star… Were his expectations in a woman low or was he just easy to please? She didn’t want to think about it, but she was grateful for it. They would have to go back to as close to before that they could get. Realistically, he was a temporary solution to a temporary problem. He most apt to leave Juniper behind once he accomplished whatever it was he needed to do. Right now he had some sort of goal, she could tell, but he seemed content with vineyard work for the pay her father gave him. Juniper didn’t pay Rafe anything, but she would give him anything if he asked.
Juniper’s latest endeavor was to take her good fortune to a higher level and start giving back. She was thinking about becoming a philanthropist –starting a foundation once one reached out and touched her. Juniper didn’t have any misfortunate beginnings or family members with issues. She had a relatively lucky family background. She was looking into giving money for education because without her parent’s money, it was what truly got her to where she was. She had intelligence and she used it when she could have become a spoiled princess. If Rafe needed money, she would give it free of charge. If he needed anything, she would do that for him. She could sense his pride and she knew he would never ask her and she wasn’t one to be or nag. She liked their odd relationship for what it was and she went along with it.
The smell of pancakes filled her nose and her stomach growled telling her that yes, she did very much want it. what she wanted immediately was to wrap her arms around Rafe. She did, her arms snaked around to hold him from behind, he breasts pressed against this back as she arched up on tiptoes to kiss the back of his neck like he had done to her earlier before she had fell asleep. Juniper pumped out some bizarre emotion from her whenever she was this close to the man. She didn’t think she was in love, it was too soon, but she could bet a thousand dollars she was in lust. She loved everything about Rafe. There were just other emotions swirling around inside of her that confused even her – a woman who was intelligent and successful. “It smells wonderful, thank you.” She poured herself orange juice and sat down at the table. She would need a good strong cup of coffee later to make up for all the time she was “wasting” now. “I want to know more about you…. What’s your middle name?”

Rafe smiled as he finished up the pancakes while Juniper wrapped her arms around him and kissed his neck. He liked this. It almost felt like things were slipping back into the life he once had only instead of having the view of the farm from the window, he had the vineyard and instead of having a stove where you needed matches to light it, he could just turn a knob and it worked wonderfully, “Fire away, then,” he grinned softly, if anything a bit sleepy, over his broad shoulder at her before she asked him what his middle name was, “Augustus,” he answered without any shame, “It was my grandfather’s name,” he seemed at ease with answering her questions though he wasn’t sure which direction she would go in. If she asked about his family, he had no problems answering them. If he was allowed, he could talk until he was blue in the face about each and every one of them, especially his adorable niece, and even if he was called stupid or less of a man for doing such a thing, he didn’t care. He loved his family and even though they had their moments where they wanted to tear each other’s throats out, blood would always be thicker than water.
The one topic he would be horrible at would be his love life. He wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear that he was still married but that he hadn’t seen his wife in about two years, almost three, since she took off in the middle of the night while he’d been sleeping. He also didn’t think she’d appreciate hearing that the main reason he even came to America was because he was told she would be here, since it was where she used to always say they should move because there were more economic opportunities. That and she wouldn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn and they wouldn’t have to work on a farm. The agricultural lifestyle wasn’t one that catered to her every whim. She’d been a small town girl-where everything was within walking distance and she didn’t have to get milk from a cow. She obviously hadn’t appreciated it but she tolerated it. He just didn’t think she’d up and leave him because of something so petty as to where they lived and their life’s work.
He set the pancakes on the table, giving her more than he gave himself, and then went to the fridge to get the pitcher of orange juice, in case she wanted some more, and some syrup. She’d been so busy the past couple of days, he’d gone out on his own to buy the groceries and since he was the one buying them, he went to farmer’s markets and organic food stores. Despite not having a lot of money, he was so iffy about all the preservatives people put in foods in America. Wasn’t that why, he heard, they had such a high obesity rate? He’d rather not put such chemicals into his body and such. That would just be downright fear inducing, “Your’s?” he asked curiously as he sat down once he was sure she was comfortable and seated (it was a habit more than anything) and he easily started eating, glad he was getting some food into his system.

Heaviness in heart was lifted by just being near Rafe and it was so bizarre that it scared Juniper. Her lips were a curse and blessing that she didn’t know if she could grasp and keep with her. Their intense, fiery, and breathtaking lovemaking still was present in her mind – it kept her from thinking of all of the things she needed to do. She needed to call clients, make appointments for the week, finish what she started last night, phone calls, skype calls, the list was endless – she was more focused on the fit physique of her body guard and possible new found crush. It was very irresponsible of Juniper, but she didn’t care. She sat down and watched as he put the pancake son the plate, buttering it with local butter made somewhere in California, and syrup all the way from the maple trees of Vermont. He put the plates down and brought over orange juice. He was literally everything Juniper as a child dreamed for: he had dark hair, he was the same height as her, he didn’t leave her while she slept, and he took care of her in ways she should have been taking care of him.
“Rose, my middle name is Rose.” She answered softly as her butter knife slid through the pancakes he made. He must have made it from the random box mix she had bought for waffles from her waffle maker. She dipped the bite of pancakes she had into a small puddle of syrup before popping the bite into her mouth. She loved how light it was, but it was completely filling, it was perfect. She didn’t want to gorge herself, but she left silence fall for a while as she ate. She smiled across the way as their eyes met. She was in crush mode, but she wouldn’t make it obvious for them. They still needed to talk about what had happened, but Juniper learned through mistake after mistake to not mention anything until at least three days after it happened. Sometimes, he would break the ice to her, but most times she would do it and she even had a mental script to read off from in her head. With him not saying anything to her, she had to make their time together before they went to their respective corners tolerable. “Tell me about your family in Romania.”
She did want to know about his family back in the country he called home. He called them from her house phone and from his own phone and she was curious about it. Was he married? Divorced? Mom, Dad – yes or no? Brothers, sisters, cousins – the works – she wanted to know as much about Rafe as she could before she jumped on knowing what to think of “them.” With Caleb and Connor Juniper had set the rules down for them. With Caleb she thought of the first time as a very personal thank you for her services earlier and the second time, that Rafe busted in on, was to test the waters if there anything there would pursuing. With Connor, it was just a call away and she would go over to his house or they would meet at a hotel. It was good sex, but she had to work for her own orgasm most times before it was over and sometimes it didn’t happen, sometimes he made it happen. Juniper had the most electrifying and passionate love making of her life this morning and she didn’t know what to think of it. She did know she wanted Rafe entirely.

His family. Rafe didn’t even hesitate to talk about them, “My parents passed away when I was a kid,” he said with ease since he didn’t really remember them. He was just told a lot of stories about how they met and how they were always meant to be together-which was why they died together in an almost fairytale-love story kind of way, “My father passed away in a car accident and a month later my mother passed away in her sleep but I can’t remember too much on them. Just that they were always together,” this was probably the only subject he could talk endlessly about, “I was sent to live with my grandparents on their farm with my cousin, Jane. They passed away when I was seventeen and my cousin was sixteen so we took over the farm. She got married to Arnie and they had my niece, Bethany. She’s got these really big blue eyes and really curly blonde hair…She sort of reminds me of a sunflower or the sunshine…She just turned six a few months ago,” he had stopped eating to ramble and anyone would have thought he was weird for being to talk endlessly about family but not really have much to say on other topics or, in Rafe’s case, a bit too shy to actually talk about said topics. He was just better suited as a family man more than anything.
But then he hesitated, looking at her with wavering eyes as if unsure of what he wanted to say next. He wanted to tell her about his wife but he wasn’t positive on how she would take it. Would she think he used her? Because he didn’t. She was by no means no rebound or anything but Juniper, his very beautiful and talented boss who he was ridiculously attracted to to the point of infatuation but he couldn’t admit that, could he? Like he mentioned…she was his boss and by the looks of it, she could only be wanting him for that one time and that was it. He hated playing chicken but he had to put the cards out on the table. He disliked lying and had been raised to always be honest.
“I got married when I was eighteen before I went into the air force of Romania,” he spoke slowly, keeping his eyes on her as if to watch for her reaction and to assess it to make sure he wasn’t destroying her emotionally or not. She’d never asked about his family before hand and well, his wife was his family even if she did disappear on him, “I guess she didn’t like me only being home a few times a year and she took off three years ago. I haven’t seen her since,” he felt better getting that off his chest but he still felt guilty so he added, “I should have mentioned that before we… well…” he didn’t know how to put it so he just said it, “…made love… but I haven’t worn my ring in so long I actually started forgetting about it ever since I moved in here.” It was the God honest truth. He used to think of Jasey all the time but ever since he moved in with Juniper, he had been thinking about her less and less and she started fading into the background as just another fuzzy memory in another life he couldn’t entirely remember being a part of. But he was still married, even if they hadn’t lived with each other or seen each other in three years. “She left without a reason…so she can’t come back with an excuse,” it was plain and simple, straight forward, but it was obvious her departure had hurt him tremendously by how cold and detached he’d reacted toward that part of the subject. She’d been the only woman he’d ever been with until he met Juniper. Juniper was now the second. He wasn’t sure where it was going but he was hoping she wouldn’t hate him for not being divorced. He couldn’t divorce her unless she signed the papers he already had drawn up but he couldn’t send them to her if he had no idea where she was so he could send them to her. He was stuck married until she decided to show her face.

Juniper initially was someone who didn’t think she wanted to know anything about other’s families when she never really appreciated anyone in her own family. She didn’t want to dwell on how bizarre it had been, because both of her parents had been focused on working. The only one that showed an interest in her life was her mother when she wasn’t busy with work – her father, despite sending her a bodyguard, never made an effort when she was young. He had raised his other children before her and spent all of his emotions and give-a-damns for them before Juniper was even conceived. Rafe, he was close and he dearly loved his family. She could tell that he missed them, too, especially his niece. It was nice, to meet a man who valued family and kept them close to his heart. It was refreshing, when her views on family made it sound more like a burden than a blessing. It also made her think about her goals, when she found family such an annoyance, why did she want her own children? It was simpler than it sounded: to teach herself and her children that family was truly forever a blessing.
If she had a man like Rafe in her life that loved her and could show her how wonderful family really is she thought it would be easier to adjust from how she viewed family now. She couldn’t help herself, she found herself wanting nothing but Rafe and everything he was. She was easily fascinated and sucked into someone when she kissed them, but she was beginning to be aware that she had to of thought there was something special about Rafe from the start. She loved the shape and fullness of his lips, the intensity of his eyes, their color, and the shape of his eyebrows. The way he spoke and worded things, how red his face was earlier, and how easy he was to talk to. She liked the veins that poked out of his arms and while they made out before their love making, her slim fingers traced them. She liked how he kissed and how he worked his mouth. She loved the way he would kiss and lightly suck one spot and place a small peck after it as if he was sealing the deal. She was absolutely fascinated with him, but of course she couldn’t have him.
He was married. Juniper couldn’t believe what he was saying to her. He was married to a woman since they were young? How dare her sleep with her? She may have had low morals when it came to who she slept with, but she wasn’t a home wrecker. When he said he had not seen her in years, it only made her panic. Was there something wrong with this man she swore was walking out of her childhood dreams? Why would she leave such a beautiful man? Sure there was the fact he was in an air force, but Juniper wouldn’t have paid that much mind because she would want him to be happy and successful in all his pursuits. Wait, did he just say that they made love? So maybe he did feel something for her… No, he was still married and now she couldn’t even be his girlfriend or fiancé or anything because of that one little tidbit of information. She felt his eyes on him and she didn’t know what to do, she just kept blinking and blinking. What should she say? She knew he was waiting for her to say something to him. She didn’t know what to say, but she felt like crying. She liked him, for the first time in a few years she liked a man so irrationally at the start and she wanted to be with him. She felt defeated and she felt full of pancakes that she wanted to go vomit out in hatred. She hated this woman for getting to him first, because now there wasn’t anything left for Juniper but his penis.
“Well…. I guess that means…. I can’t….We can’t be anything… Because of her… You won’t… I…” She stood and hurried up to her office, tears spilling over and blurring her vision, she knocked into a stand; a vase of flowers she bought fell over. She didn’t know what to do; she didn’t know what to say. She wanted Rafe more than she wanted anyone… it was so sudden, a sudden burst of emotion and now she was overwhelmed with knowledge. She opened her laptop, typed in her password and attempted to work through tears of depressing defeat.
