He considers himself a local to Sapphire Bay. His parents moved into the upper middle-class neighborhood. They were never wealthy enough to be completely considered elite and a part of the socialite crowds. However, his parents have always been invited to gatherings whether it is as a camera-guy or reporting news for the gossip section of the television show. • When Nolan was four his little sister Alexandria was born. Alexandria always relied heavily on Nolan during their childhood as she was considerably weak with a rare genetic disorder called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She persevered through life and died at the age of eleven from sudden cardiac death. Nolan, then 15, was never able to mourn properly as he was trying to keep his grades and performance school excellent for his grieving parents. • When he was 16, Nolan took his first hit off a joint one of his friends had. It changed him, forever. He loved the way it felt and the escape it gave him. It was then he started taking moderate amounts of money from his parents during the week (one dollar, two, and up to five if there was enough bills in there) to be able to buy weed, as much as he could afford with whatever he took. • When he was 17, Nolan started attending parties and they were never pool parties either. His first time drinking he was so smashed that he fell asleep on a park bench and didn’t wake up until some naggy old lady needed to sit down because she was going to collapse. He started to acquire and prefer certain liquors, rum being a particular favorite. • At 18 he was kicked out of his parent’s house, only to be brought back in and kicked out more times than he could count until he got his high school diploma. A week or so after graduating, his father went on a rampage and destroyed his beloved studio he made in the house with all his best paintings he was going to submit as a portfolio to an art school. Nolan took whatever was salvageable and hit the high road. • 19 was a shit show. • 20 he worked for McDonald’s for his rent, weed and alcohol money. He ate whatever they fucked up on for food. It was the only way he could survive – but they fired him when they thought he was messing up orders on purpose for a meal. • 21 he was arrested a few days after his 21st for drunk and disorderly conduct. • 22, 23, 24? Shit show after shit show with some fantastic pieces that sold for pretty good. Too bad he spent that all. • 25, well now he’s on to dealing drugs and caricatures, but painting is the only thing he needs to keep calm and carry on. verdoux - 18- seven years |
