elite
the name pretty much says it all. the elite are filthy rich, they usually like to flaunt it, and typically look down on the other classes. of course, this doesn't apply to all elites, just to most of them. in short, they're not just 'rich', they are millionaires and billionaires. they control this shit.
townie
townies are the middle class of the city. usually, they were born and raised here, and their families - although not rolling in the dough - aren't doing too bad for themselves. just because most of them were born here doesn't mean they all are. they're just the middle class, basically. they're the people who just get by day to day.
transplant
transplants are people who moved here after they were born, whether that be at age 5 or age 25. some of them are new to the city and just settling in, just trying to make a name for themselves. some of them have money, some of them don't.
tourist
tourists are exactly as you imagine. they are visitors from out of town, from anywhere in the world. some are only here for a short time perhaps, while others may fall in love with the city - or its denizens - and stay a while longer. tourists also usually have a lot of money but they don't have to. they're the people who don't live in sapphire bay.
celebrity
celebrities are the fictitiously famous characters who move to sapphire bay. (that means no real celebrities allowed, only made-up ones). obviously, they have money unless they're going bankrupt like nicholas cage back a year or so ago, and they're... well, they're famous. celebrities are characters who are singers, actors, and even models, etc.
criminal
with the large influx of the crime population due to the relocation of the irish mob from los angeles to sapphire bay, this group is simply a necessity. a criminal is a character who lives a life of crime, not just someone who stole a pack of gum from the gas station on the corner. typically, they're rich like the elites and celebrities would be, but their money is gained through less than savory methods. they are forgers, mafia dons, gangsters, gamblers, thieves, and more.
