He didn’t want to let on that he had special plans for their anniversary, so whenever Evelyn mentioned making plans - he avoided it tactfully like any good attorney would. Liam wasn’t one who wanted to rain on a parade. Lately, they were spending as much time as they could and he was used to getting laid every once in a while when they had time, but lately they were rabbits. Whether he stopped over at her office to drive her home for a quickie or she came to see him, they were trying their hardest to create their first child. Liam didn’t know if any of it was landing at base, but he wasn’t going to stop if she didn’t want to stop. He got dressed and left for work like normal, but he wasn’t going to work. As soon as he knew she was gone he started setting things up. He bought everything for their new puppy: a water dish, a food dish, a cage, a dog bed, treats, foods, toys, a unisex collar, and a leash. Then there were the other romantic things he bought such as bouquets of flowers throughout the house, rose petals on the bed, he even bought them a special bubble bath for later. Liam didn’t think he was a hopeless romantic, but he did think he tried hard to keep his wife happy.
Driving to her work, he had already talked to her management to make sure he could come in and take her away. He was sneaky, sly, and thorough – qualities that were perfect for attorneys but not necessarily lovers. However, Liam used them for both that benefited him. Did he ever cheat on Evelyn or do anything with those natural talents that was terrible? No, it was always to make her happy. He pulled up outside her work and straightened his suit. He had a special blindfold he had made custom for them that said “Happy Anniversary” in fancy cursive writing and a heart. He slipped through the place, giving smiles and waves to everyone until he showed up behind her. He watched her type, she seemed upset, but he could tell why. She probably thought that they were slipping back to how it was before where he was busy and she was getting ignored and neglected. No, it was all part of his plan to surprise her. He slipped the blindfold around her eyes and tied it so that she couldn’t see. “Hello, love. Did you really think I would forget about you today?” He helped her stand and gathered her purse before leading her out. “I have a surprise for you.” He brought her to his surprise and when she was standing in front of a pile of puppies somehow not barking and yipping, he slipped the blindfold away. “I believe you mentioned getting a puppy and look, I paid attention: golden retrievers like your preferred. Go ahead, baby, pick one out, but only one.”

Giving her husband a quick kiss on the lips, Evelyn Golightly watched the love of her life disappear down the street. She bit her lip hard, trying not to overreact over the fact that he had forgotten what today was. Liam was busy with his current case, and she wasn't going to burden him with senseless questions and put him on the spot. He would get frustrated just at the reminder that he had forgotten their wedding anniversary. It was the first time he had forgotten something so important, and Evelyn was hoping that this wouldn't become a common situation. She wouldn't be able to deal with it, if it became one. Instead of pondering the questions that were wandering her mind and crying about everything, she made her way into the bedroom. A flowered printed dress was on her bed, her outfit for the day, and her hand made its way down to her stomach. The dress most likely wouldn't fit in a month or two, and a small smile appeared on her lips. A blessing, that was what was happening. While Liam was forgetting the simple things, she had a miracle growing inside of her.
A baby. Evelyn was pregnant with Liam's child, and it was thrilling. The three pregnancy tests she had taken at work a few days ago confirmed that. Part of her had wanted to go to the doctors, but she had refused, wanting Liam to be there. Instead, she had kept the joy to herself. Sure, they were like rabbits still, but her hormones were allowing to her be pleasured by him. Hormones were like that, she read. The baby book she had bought yesterday was tucked in her bedside table, beneath the girly things and extra condoms that they had once needed. With the thought of their unborn child in her mind, Evelyn got ready for work and made her way out the door.
Her boss had her do some editing, which was odd. Usually, she and Owen were the ones on the road, interviewing and getting the dirt. Nope, not today. Apparently, there were a lot of editing jobs for the paper tomorrow, and she was first in line. Blowing a strand of hair out of her face, her fingers flew across the laptop. Of course, the article she was editing was about the oldest couple in Sapphire Bay. Her smile turned down and she felt as though she was about to cry, when a blindfold appeared over her eyes and an elegant voice slid into her ears. Squealing, she blushed. "No! I just thought you were busy and such..." her voice trailed off, and she turned and kissed his lips.
They made their way towards the first surprise, and when the blindfold was removed, Evelyn gasped. In front of her were the cutest puppies ever, and she immediately picked up the first one she saw. It was a boy, and she immediately fell in love with the puppy as it licked her cheek. "He's perfect!" she squealed, turning and smiling at Liam in delight.

Liam knew his wife well; he was an observer like her in that way. While Evelyn could see many things going on around her and take them all in and place them into a beautiful play of words: Liam observed and took notes. That was how his brain worked and it worked well for his job. He took many classes in body language so he knew Evelyn had been upset in the morning. What kind of husband would forget his anniversary? One that clearly wasn’t as devoted to his wife as his wife was devoted to him. However, Liam was devoted to Evelyn and he hadn’t forgotten, but he was a man who strived to keep things fresh and constantly the same so that they wouldn’t lose their love. They did hit a dry spell when work was all he could think of, but he had to keep it at bay no matter how cocky he was feeling. If he had too many cases going on at once, Evelyn would get left behind out of fear of losing a case or more drastically losing his job. Where on the same hand he could lose his wife and his future – Liam lived on a very sensitive balance that he worked hard to keep equal. He did get tired, but he knew that eventually it would be harder than before when Evelyn became pregnant and she would need him more. Once their baby was here, he would have to make drastic cuts. Perhaps a puppy wasn’t the best idea, but they did need to start their parenting on something and people did that with puppies, right?
He stole glances at his wife as he drove to pick out their puppy. Evelyn was everything Liam ever wanted in a wife and she was so precious to him. When Liam imagined another man as her husband and not him it drove him insane with rage as he was selfish when it came to his wife. He didn’t want to lose her and the softness of her skin that he had grown to trace as she slept and they talked about their days in bed. Lately they were working odd schedules and obsessing over “peak” times that Evelyn might be able to conceive. When they got pregnant finally, Liam wasn’t sure if he would know which session would have hit the mark but he decide that it truly didn’t matter as much as he hyped it up to be. What was most important was to be pregnant over not being pregnant. Watching her face as she picked out her puppy, he took a picture because he wanted to document their anniversary in pictures. Little to her knowledge, he had already taken a picture of her working at her desk and then someone took a picture of her being blindfolded and led out the door. He would have to thank her work pal, but he didn’t know the name of that person.
Having already paid for a puppy in full, he led Evelyn out with their puppy. “Well, we need to get the little guy a collar, bowl, and the works – that’s our next stop on the anniversary agenda: a shopping spree at our local pet store.” The puppy was a lazy dog and Liam had to chuckle as it immediately passed out on Evelyn’s lap as they drove. Liam held her hand and kissed her knuckles. After the pet store would be a lengthy drive to dinner at the same restaurant he took her for their first date. She was worth all the miles anyways. He pulled up and followed her around as her merchandise holder – he was used to it thankfully all those shopping sprees in college when no of her gal pals would go with her he would man up and go. He was completely whipped, like delicious cream cheese over bagels, and he didn’t care at all.

The puppy was adorable and it licked her face. A soft laugh escaped her lips and she held the puppy closer to her, her eyes drifting shut. For just a moment, Evelyn could pretend that the puppy was a baby and it needed her. But then it licked her face once more and she stood up, making her way with Liam. He knew what she wanted, and for some reason, this made her all giddy inside. He knew what would make her happy, and this whole ruse about pretending not to know about their anniversary was just a game. Of course he remembered and wanted to surprise her with everything he had. Stage one was obviously the adoption of the puppy in her arms, and the rest of the stages were to be discovered. Yes, Evelyn was sure it included a romantic dinner on the town and more surprises, but she had a surprise of her own. One that she had kept a secret for about a week, in fear of being wrong. But whenever Liam took her for dinner, she was sure to reveal her big surprise. It had been the reason she had been getting up early and throwing up. It had been the reason why she didn’t drink a cup of wine anymore with dinner, even though she lied to Liam and said alcohol didn’t help with getting pregnant. And it was also the reason why she couldn’t spend a night without making love to her husband. Her hormones were out of wacky and Evelyn had been surprised he hadn’t caught on yet.
Sitting down in the car, the puppy fell asleep almost instantly on her lap and she stoked its ears before her fingers intertwined with Liam’s. “When we’re there, we should also make obedience classes. God knows that this dog is going to need a lesson or two with not peeing inside the house,” she said, a small smile playing on her lips. His lips grazed her knuckles and she smiled big. “Can you pull over for a second?” she asked politely, her hormones suddenly taking over. This couldn’t wait, she needed her husband to pleasure her, and Evelyn was sure this would not be the first time today she would initiate their love making. Liam looked had her confused and she simply refused to meet his eye until the car stopped in the shade of some trees. Evelyn smiled mischievously before carefully placing the new puppy in the back seat. The puppy kicked a little before falling back to sleep and she looked at Liam, her eyes darkened with lust.
Her legs straddled him suddenly and she kissed his lips passionately. “You are the best husband a woman could ask for” she whispered, before their lips crashed together again. Their love making was quick, without the removal of much clothing, and exactly what Evelyn needed. Her hormones calmed down a bit and they made their way to the market, where her eyes fell on the pet shop that held everything for the puppy. When Liam stopped the car, Evelyn grabbed the dog and made her way into the petshop, already having a name in mind. “I think we should call him Max” she said, smiling at Liam “and he should have a blue collar and blue everything.” Her voice rose with excitement and she felt like a little kid again. “And this is only the first stop? If I know you, there are plenty more stops to come!”
