mike too if you were wondering. also i'll have you know that i am 27 & loving it. oh. you've heard that I'm hetero? & that I'm from london, england? well the rumors are true for once. well I gotta get going, interpol is calling. see ya'! history michael weddington was born mikhail otto weddington to otto and filimena lekochka. belarusian by birth, michael has forsaken his heritage following the disgrace of his father. he is the oldest of two, his younger sister being athena weddington who he believes to be dead. michael, or shall we call him 'mikhail' as we begin his story, was always a thoughtful child. he was two years old when his younger sister ksenya was born, and he was always her protector as most older brothers are. they family of four was happy and loving, their mother staying at home with the kids and their father working as a secret service agent to the ruling family of belarus: the gorbunovs. mikhail was ten when that all fell apart. his father always worked late on wednesdays, and that's when it happened. mikhail and ksenya were already put to bed, but mikhail was awakened by too much silence in the house. even after he and his sister were asleep, their mother would spend hours waiting up in the kitchen sewing or crafting until their father got home, and mik got used to sleeping to the sound of her humming to herself or soft classical music playing on the small radio she kept on the window sill in the kitchen. but this night was different, and it put him on edge. he woke in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and although the light was on in the kitchen, there was no humming. forgetting about his need to go to the restroom, mikhail crept down the stairs and that's when he experienced the first travesty of his life. a ten year old should not find his mother dead on the floor in the kitchen in a pool of her own blood. she was face-down, stabbed through the heart although mikhail (thankfully) couldn't see that and would learn the fact later, with one arm stretched above her on the 'off' button of the radio which had crashed to the floor and shattered as she'd been attacked. just moments later, even as mikhail still stood shocked into paralyzation, his father came home from work and found them. ksenya was waking up, awoken by her brother's yell, and otto ordered his son upstairs to keep his sister from seeing their mother's dead body. from that night on, otto lekochka was never the same. he moved his children to a new home, and he holed himself up in his study every night for five years. mikhail grew bitter toward his father, wanting the parental affection and attention from him and never getting it as his father grieved and researched into the death of his wife. he never asked otto what he was doing in the study all those nights, and his anger toward his father only grew. he felt otto had abandoned them even though he still lived with them. the second great travesty of mikhail's life would come on the evening of a peace summit in switzerland, an event he and his sister were invited to attend along with their father. mikhail was fifteen at the time, and still considered himself his sister's protector (as he always would). otto encouraged his children to spend time with the younger gorbunov children, and while the young teens hung out, mikhail got the brilliant idea that they should sneak out and peek in the rooms of the dignitaries up and down the hall to just 'see' what they had. just as the teenagers were getting ready to leave on their mission, they heard a scuffle outside and left the suite to see otto lekochka murder the gorbunovs in the hallway outside. all of the anger mikhail had built up toward his father since his mother's death exploded, and while his sister ksenya stood shellshocked with the gorbunov children sobbing behind him, mikhail attacked his father. he stood no chance in fighting off a man of otto's age, strength, and training, but otto had no desire to hurt his own son. his reasons for killing the gorbunovs would never be known (or rather, accepted) by his son, but otto wished no harm to anyone other than the corrupt people who now lay dead at his feet. while mikhail raged against his father, he did little more than hold him off long enough that he couldn't escape before the police swooped in and arrested him. soon thereafter, mikhail and athena were sucked into the foster care system, sent underground to england where their names were changed to protect their lives against political zealots who would see them dead for the crimes of their father. they became michael and athena and were adopted by a wealthy lawyer couple in london, stephen and wendy weddington. michael began to deny his past, even imagining that he'd been lucky enough to actually be born as the weddingtons' son. if asked, he would say that stephen was his father, not otto lekochka. both he and his sister were drawn to the world of law, thanks to their adoptive parents and (to michael's denial) their father who had been part of the belarusian law enforcement. it was in their blood, you could say. athena went to college, initially, to become a lawyer, while michael went into training to enter interpol. he became an agent and was the one who suggested to his superiors that his sister be examined for her potential to join the elite force as well. it was ten years after the heinous crimes committed by their father, and unlike michael, athena had always been curious about otto's motives. michael tried to talk her out of it, but she decided to take a vacation to belarus where she spent time listening to otto's story. upon her return to london, she tried to convince michael of their father's innocence and his motives (his ideas about their mother's death being a conspiracy by the gorbunov family), but michael would hear none of it. he hated his father for the years of silence following filimena's death and for murdering the gorbunovs. he hated his father for all of the things he and his sister had been put through because of the man's sins, and he hated that their once-perfect life had completely fallen apart. now that he'd gotten himself back on track, he refused to be dragged back into the drama that was otto lekochka (as he saw it). so he wrote his sister off. and that would be the last he would actually speak to her. four months later, after warning her superiors that she was being targeted by the russian mob and almost dying in an interpol raid on a low level russian affiliate, athena weddington went missing. officials in interpol tried to convince michael she was only a missing person, but he wouldn't hear it. he knew his sister was dead. she was too smart to be captured by someone, and even if she had been, he believed she would give up her life before she would betray everything she believed. she was too stubborn for that. he grieved by himself in his small flat he shared with a lion fish in london, and he grew intensely focused on his work. his entire family was dead (since he considered his father dead to him as well although he man still lived in a prison in belarus). not long after, he caught wind of the case of 'v' the notorious criminal mastermind known internationally, especially across europe. he'd been linked to various mafias, but no one believed him to be a part of them. michael worked his ass off to get on the case, and he rose through the ranks until he became one of the primary investigators in the v case. on a weak lead, but one he put much value in despite the scoffing of his coworkers, michael has tailed v to sapphire bay, and he hopes to find him once and for all. but he may find more than he bargained for. personality michael is astute and highly intelligent. he's like the sherlock holmes to victor grey's professor moriarty. except he's not a weird eccentric like sherlock, of course. he does see the smallest details that no one else picks up on, however, and he's great at what he does. he got his calculating mind from his father, and his big heart from his mother. he fully denies his ties to otto lekochka, and believes he is the only one of his biological family still alive. the death of his mother scared him emotionally as a boy, and the subsequent murder committed by his father only made it worse. losing his sister only deepened his inner turmoil. although he has been torn down by the major events in his life, he doesn't show how deeply scarred he is by them. he focuses on his work and gets better and better at it as his struggles wear him down. the more emotional stress he has, the harder he works. he doesn't realize it, but he gets this from his father (such as otto spending years in his study researching his wife's murder), and if he did realize it, he would deny it heartily. he hates being compared to otto, but anyone who has ever seen his father would instantly say how very much michael looks like him. he is almost the spitting image of his father, and he hates it. he still has so much anger toward otto for his crimes, and he can't let it go. he doesn't realize just how much it eats away at him. however, he does have a big heart. if he likes someone, he will be their best friend when he knows he can trust them. he can love deeply, just as he loved his sister, and that goes for friends as well as romance. he isn't as closed up about his emotions as you would think he would be; he just won't talk to you about his past, pre-london. even his closest friends don't know about his childhood. he refuses to lie about it, so he simply won't talk about it, plain and simple. he is a very honest man, so if something happens that would require him to lie, he will simply shut down. | [atrb=width,200] |
