Many didn't approve of V's methods, but he could honestly say that he didn't give a flying fuck. They weren't in any place to be judging him, and most of them were smart enough to fear the infamous V, the very man that hadn't ever been caught. All they knew was a letter and his past actions. In fifteen years, they hadn't even come close to catching him. Not once. He always managed to stay a step ahead of the law, even with his plethora of enemies and his own arrogance.
He was a 'normal' citizen with a beautiful woman on his arm and by night, he was the infamous V. For him, it was all just a game. He feared nothing and what looked like mistakes to the few that new his identity were all just part of a bigger scheme. He had been in Sapphire Bay for an entire year and there had only been once that he felt the long arm of the law beginning to get too close for comfort. Still, he had stayed his ground and refused to leave. In the end, it had payed out. He had lost his protege and a man that he once considered a friend but in the process, he had gained a few more friends.
Shortly after the war between he and Connor had ended, he confessed his love for Athena Weddington. For the time being, he had won and for the past year, he had been able to call Athena his. After a year, he was still trying to gain the courage to propose with the ring that had been stowed away in the confines of his desk drawer for the past, three months. He had the intention, and he would do it, but the thought of proposing to somebody again made him somewhat nervous. She had been about the only person that had remained genuinely loyal to him and only him. His former protege, Aubrey Townsend, had presumably either gone off on her own or started working alongside his ex-friend, Connor Selwyn. With the recent arrival of the IRA and the way the law enforcement had stepped up their game, even V was curbing his act to something more acceptable.
The crime boss had nothing to do, so he chose to call in the one person that he knew could make his life a little bit better. Sure, he could wait until he left the cafe and went back to her place, but he didn't see the fun in that. All of his waiters and waitresses were dismissed with nothing more than an agitated flick of his hand. The only lighting in the entire establishment were a couple rows of candles that had been methodically placed in the cafe so that they were adjacent to the walls. It had all been part of his grand plan. Maybe now he could actually propose to her. Perhaps, he could even get off his lazy ass and start weeding out his unreliable employees one by one, although he'd have to do it quietly so the others on his list didn't catch wind and go squealing to the cops like the little piggies that they were.
